The chronicle of the 11 day therapeutic, whimsical, role-playing, escapist road trip in a Packard Twin-6 of “well known ex-San Franciscan and prominent Bostonian” James Alan Parsons, H. P Veeder, and Charles J. Dickman. James Alan Parsons first appears in the San Francisco directories in 1885 and in 1890 is listed as a clerk with C. A. Meyer. In 1904 he is listed as a salesman living at 1839 Larkin St. By 1907 he is living in Oakland and working in the city with Mattoon & Co., Custom House Brokers and forwarding agents. In 1910, Parsons is listed in the “Blue Book” for Newton Center, west of Boston, where he resides with Miss Ellen A. Parsons at 56 Cedar St. The chronicler, Howard P. Veeder is listed (1890) as a clerk with the Oregon Co. He joined the Bohemian club on August 31, 1899. Howard “Toots” Veeder is listed as a member and resident of the club through 1928. Charles John Dickman, president of Dickman-Jones Co., lithographers and label printers, joined the Bohemian Club on June 11, 1891 and was Director from 1901 thru 1904. 1904-1905 he served as a member of the Arts Committee. He is listed as an artist in 1918, residing at 428 Montgomery St. A.G. Kellogg is listed as a member of the Bohemian Club in 1918. Inscribed on the title page by Veeder; ‘To my friend The Bostonian Host’.
