Illustrated by Arthur Rackham.  First edition thus, copy number 102 of 765 copies (of these, 100 reserved for the United States and 15 for presentation), signed by the illustrator. 4to. ix, (1), 132, (1) pp. Nine mounted color plates, line drawings, chapter head and tail-piece vignettes, illustrated endpapers. In his preface, Gosse recalled Swinburne’s desire to gather his poems of childhood for publication, which Gosse did after Swinburne’s death, noting that want of a fully sympathetic illustrator had discouraged the author. In this work, the editor praises Rackham’s “delicate and romantic fancy” as achieving perfect harmony with Swinburne’s words and love of children. Latimore & Haskell, pp. 48-49: "This edition has an extra coloured plate that is not in the trade edition."
