3 volumes. (iii)-viii, 383, [1]; [ii], 334; [ii], 348, (iii)-v pp. Illustrated with 155 hand-colored lithographed plates after J.J. and J.W. Audubon, drawn on stone by W.E. Hitchcock and printed and colored by J.T. Bowen & Co. of Philadelphia; tissue guards. (Large 8vo) 26.5x18 cm (10½x7") period brown half morocco and cloth, gilt-lettered spines, all edges speckled red. First Octavo Edition.

Famed collaboration between Audubon and his sons, John Woodhouse and Victor Gifford, and the Lutheran minister, John Bachman. They traveled through much newly explored territory, illustrating many species that are scarce or endangered today. Beautiful hand-colored plates of hares, squirrels, buffalo, wolves, deer, grizzly bears, etc. The octavo edition was first issued in parts between 1849 and 1854; V.G. Audubon published the first three octavo editions. Two of the preliminary leaves in Volume 3 have been bound in at the rear rather than the front; half titles and list of subscribers not present.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
