Indian thunderbird motif by Valenti Angelo on title and repeated in margins. (Folio) 42.5x32 cm (16¾x12½") original brown niger-backed orange cloth, title in blind. Bound by Hazel Dreis. No. 92 of 108 copies. First Edition.

Signed at the colophon by Mary Austin but inexplicably not signed by Adams. A masterpiece of American photography. Ansel Adams himself printed all 1,296 photographs used in the 108 copies of the book. The plates are titled as follows: North House (Hlauuma), South House (Hlaukwima), A Man of Taos, Ruins of Old Church, New Church, Girl of Taos, North House (End View), South House - Harvest, Old Man of Taos, South House - Woman Winnowing Grain, North House - Kiva and Thunder Clouds, Church at Ranchos de Taos. Rare. GB 137.

Lot Amendments

Ex-library with the stamp of St. Mary's College, California, on pastedown endpapers, title page, in margin of Plate II, and the title leaf to Plate VIII; no external library markings. Small chip to spine leather, cloth spotted and soiled, damp-stain at bottom of spine and covers, some marginal foxing and minor staining to plates (images not affected); overall very good.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
