The only section of Darwin's expanded work on the origin of species published in his lifetime. Six lines of errata in Volume 1, seven in Volume 2, spine imprints in a single line of type. Publisher's catalog in Volume 1 dated April 1867; integral ad leaf at rear of Volume 2 dated February 1868. One of only 1500 copies printed. Embossed stamp of Liverpool's Holden Bookseller on front endpapers. Freeman 877.

Light wear to cloth, hinges cracked on Volume 1 but still tightly bound; otherwise a bright and near fine set.
