First edition in English of this life, philosophy and writings of the Ionian Greek philosopher, mathematician, and founder of the religious movement called Pythagoreanism. His Golden Verses, here translated directly from the Greek to English by Nicholas Rowe (who edited the first octavo edition of Shakespeare), offer metaphysical guidance in the pre-Socratic world. Rare large paper copy with wide margins. (Some wear to binding, front cover detached; internally very good.) London: Printed for Jacob Tonson, 1707

(8½x5¼"), original green wrappers, paper spine label. First Edition. Rare, fine copy in the original wrappers of the great French savant's translation and discussion of the Golden Verses of Pythagoras, preceded by a philosophic examination of the essence of poetry. Minor rubbing to wrappers, overall very fine, very rare in such untrimmed state in the original wrappers. Paris: Treuttel et Würtz, 1813.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
