The work concludes with a mileage table of public roads across the continent from Eastport, Maine to the mouth of the Columbia River, and from Quebec to New Orleans by way of the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. Despite published information to the contrary, Dana states in the table that 'it is not more than a mile from the head spring of Missouri to the head spring of one of the branches of the Columbia.'"
