• “In San Francisco / The Palace Hotel”. Promotional booklet. 4 x 6”, approx. 20 unnumbered pages. Illustrated with photographs by Arthur de Carvalho and front cover and text illustrations, in color and black and white, by Sotomayor, including a double-page cartoon map of the city and other northern California attractions. Very Rare. Undated, but ca. 1940 (listing famed New York bon vivant Charles Stanley Sackett as hotel manager)
• Ernst Bacon. Along Unpaved Roads / Songs of a Lonesome People / A collection of eight American folk songs (Delkas Music, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, 1944) Original decorative wrappers. 38pp. Folksong sheet music by composer, pianist and conductor Bacon with front cover illustration and 4 full-page plates by Sotomayor.

Painter. muralist, Illustrator and author, Sotomayor was a luminary of the San Francisco art scene, illustrator of Robert O’Brien’s 1948 book “This is San Francisco” and Herb Caen’s 1949 “Gourmet Guide” to the city. These three imprints are among his more scarce early works: The “Palace Hotel” booklet, with full-page drawings of Chinatown, Coit Tower, the Golden gate and Fisherman’s Wharf, represents his conventional style, while the Ferris and Bacon works display his early penchant for the avant-garde.
