6 volumes in 8. 242 plates (of 243 listed but the "Benedictine Nun" plate is called for in both Volume I and Volume II) complete. (Folio) 37x24.5 cm (14¾x9½") period three-quarter calf and marbled boards, spines gilt, all edges gilt.

The best edition of Dugdale's work. Begun in 1655 and brought to date in this edition by various authors. "The edition of the Monasticon which has practically superseded all the others is the magnificent one in six folio volumes [here bound in eight] with the imprint 1817-1830 ...  What was best in Steven's additions was incorporated in this edition, which contains accounts of hundreds of religious houses not mentioned by Dugdale. Hollar's chief plates were re-engraved for it..." (DNB).  Each volume bears the bookplate of Thomas Streatfeild, below which is the bookplate of Henry Andrade Harben.  The Rev. Thomas Streatfeild (1777-1848) was a Kentish antiquarian.
