The Resources of Vallejo: A series of articles, reprinted from the Solano County Advertiser, 1868-69 (caption title)

Hittell, John S.

71, [1] pp. With 2 folding lithographed maps, lithographed by Britton & Rey. (8vo) 21x13.5 cm (8¼x5¼"), modern morocco-backed cloth, spine lettered in gilt.

Scarce little booklet on the prospects of the "up-bay" city of Vallejo. The two folding maps are: "San Francisco and San Pablo Bays from chart No. 22 in Coast Survey Report of 1865... Scale 3/8" to a mile" (40x24 cm); and "Map of California Pacific Railroad showing its relative position to other railroads... Scale 12 miles to 1 inch" (30x21.7 cm). Howes calls for a preliminary leaf (which Warren Heckrotte speculates was possibly a title-page) and three ad pages (not present here). Copies listed in OCLC mention a cover title more lengthy than the caption title on the present copy, but no title-page - perhaps they were self-wrappers with advertisements, not so identified by Howes.

Provenance: Sotheby's NY, 4/28/82
