Engraved map, hand-colored in outline. On four sheets; each sheet approx. 65.5x99.5 cm (25¾x39¼") including border and margins; backed with linen & sectioned for folding, with silk edging on each sheet.

Large, detailed and very uncommon map of the United States and portions of Canada from the east coast to about 106º West, encompassing much of the  the upper Missouri, Platte and Red rivers. Arkansas Territory extends far to the west, and above it an even more vast Missouri Territory, not to be confused with the smaller, more manageable state of Missouri. Warren Heckrotte states in his notes that "Wyld's map of the same title dated 1839 is printed from the plates for this map, with a few additions. D. Rumsey believed that Walker's map served as the model for Tanner's map of the United States, 1829, but later rejected this assessment." OCLC/WorldCat locates only eight copies of the map, and lists an additional, unlocated example.
