Engraved map, hand-colored. In two sections, each approx. 126x96.5 cm (49½x38½"); backed with linen & sectioned for folding into original full morocco covers with wide elaborate gilt-roll borders, front cover titled in gilt "Teesdale's Map of the World." Folder measures 38x26.5 cm (15x10½").

Marvelous mid-19th century map of the whole world, in two large sections, east and west, folding into very attractive morocco covers. Among the many notable features are the large number of explorers' tracks upon the oceans, starting with Columbus, extending through the great navigations of Cook and others in the 18th century, and even into the 19th century with the tracks of Flinders, and the routes of commercial packets. There are many notes on the map giving details of exotic civilizations and recent discoveries. Texas is shown as an independent republic.
