Lithographed map. 12x26.5 cm (4¾x10½") on sheet of yellow paper measuring 16.5x30 cm (6½x11¾"), with printing in margins.
Very rare separately issued map showing the northeast quadrant of the United States, and various rail lines. The map is a version of one issued in a pamphlet by Samuel R. Olmstead, "The Gold Mines of Kansas of Nebraska," which is in itself quite rare (OCLC/WorldCat lists only three copies), but this separate issued, evidently an ephemeral advertising piece, seems to be unrecorded. It has additional text in the margins not on the maps issued with the pamphlet, and on the back is an advertisement for Lovejoy's Hotel in New York, with a map of that city. As noted in a block of text in the upper left of the map, the railroad is "The Shortest and only direct Line to St. Louis, Hannibal, Quincey, St. Joseph, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas City, Jefferson City, Council Bluffs, Omaha City, Cherry Creek, Pike's Peak, and the Gold Regions of Kansas and Nebraska." The Toledo, Wabash and Great Western Railroad Line extends from Toledo to Quincy and/or Hannibal on the Mississippi. Beyond that the railroad line is the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad extending to St. Joseph on the Missouri. Beyond that no railroad line is shown, nor is Cherry Creek or Pikes Peak on the map.
