Lithographed map, hand-colored. 93x117 cm (36½x46") plus columns of text on either side, on sheet 99x144 cm (39x56½"), backed with linen and sectioned for folding. With original marbled boards folder issued for the sale of the map in Germany, titled on front cover label: "Der Amerikanische Continent. Nuesten topographische und Eisenbahn-Karte Vereinigten Staaten, Britischen Besitzungen, Westindien, Mexico & Central-America. Aus der Artistischen Anstalt von Haasis & Lubrecht in New-York. Stuttgart. Im Debit Bei Wilhelm Lubrecht, Jun. 1873."

Striking and brightly colored map, quite rare, with a panoramic view at the top of the map titled "From the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean." Text on side columns give population statistics and brief descriptions of the states and territories. Many railroad lines, both planned and completed, criss-cross the country.
