Engraved map-game, with two separate columns of text. Map is 48x47 cm (18¾x18½"); text columns each 51.5x11.5 cm (20¼x4½"). Map and text backed with linen and sectioned for folding, with original marbled boards slipcase with printed paper label, 18x12.5 cm (7x5").

Rare 18th century geographic board game, consisting of a map of the world with 103 numbered locations or stops, with the text giving information about each of the stops. There is a note on map that it is "drawn upon a Stereographic projection, of which London is the Centre." Warren Heckrotte describes the game and its play: "The game is played with a totum of eight faces. The player moves his 'Traveler' along the designated points according to the number that appears up on the totum after spinning it. There are 103 designated locations. The northwest of America is according to the Russian discoveries and the claimed discoveries of De Fonte." When one lands on a designated stop, the information in the text seems to have been read out, but there does seem to have been any questions to be answered for play to proceed. No travelers or totums are present with the game. OCLC/WorldCat lists only two examples, both at the British Library.
