“Persia – Oriental Rug Weavers”, front cover illustration by Fish for Henry Ford’s Dearborn Independent, April 20, 1927. Complete issue in original wrappers. 8.75 x 11.75 inches, 32pp.
The Canadian cruise promotional booklet was illustrated by Fish in striking colors and a masterful Art Deco-impressionist style, with his art work on front and rear covers and on every page, visually portraying the various ports of call of the round-the-world cruise, from Monaco and Naples to Algeria, Turkey, Palestine, Egypt, India, Java, Singapore, Manila, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan, Hawaii (represented by a surfer in motion) and Havana.
Very little is known about the artist, a 27 year-old from Chicago who worked in Detroit and later, New York; the Ford magazine noted only that he had “toured the world in search of the rare and picturesque.”
