2 volumes. 482, [4 ad]; 576 pp. 4 plates, including frontispieces, 3 maps (2 folding), folding facsimile letter. (8vo) original blindstamped brown cloth, spines lettered in gilt. First Edition, second issue.

First issued the prior year. The first post-annexation scholarly history of Texas, considered by historian Hubert H. Bancroft to be "one of the best, if not the best, history of Texas." The author was a West Point graduate and served in the Mexican War. Howes Y10; Jenkins, Basic Texas Books 224.

Light wear to cloth, front free endpaper lacking in Volume 2; a few leaves and one plate detached near center in Volume 1, foxing; very good.
