Rare Nauvoo printing of Pratt's explication of the Mormon teachings, softening somewhat the Mormons' previous calls for converts to flee to a frontier city of refuge among the Indians and there seek shelter from the coming storm of God's vengeance upon the Gentiles. The book is representative of Mormon doctrine as it was presented to the public in the half-decade following the Church's publication of its 1835 Doctrine & Covenants. First published in New York in 1837, with another New York edition in 1839 and one published at Manchester, England, in 1841. Flake 6631; Sabin 64972. Ink ownership signature of Howard G.
