Lithographed map, hand-colored in outline. 110x99 cm (43¼x39"), folding into gilt-lettered blindstamped cloth covers 23.3x14.5 cm (9¼x5¾").

Large and detailed map executed at a time that the various lines of passage through Central America were becoming ever more frequented as California became a more integral part of the Union. The map extends from the Southeast United States to Panama, including all of the Gulf of Mexico and part of the Caribbean. There are three insets, of the Bay of Fonseca; Part of San Juan de Nicaragua; and Nicaragua from San Juan Fonseca Bay. Included on the map are a number of descriptive and historical notes on the map.
