Single sheet, printed on one side only. Paper watermarked "EDM." Sheet size 32.5x26.7 cm (12¾x10½).
Rare catalog of maps and charts for sale by the Arrowsmith firm, with 32 of the former listed, and 55 of the latter. The list provides the title, size, number of sheets and price for each map. On dating the catalog, Warren Heckrotte writes "The last map listed is that of Germany in six sheets for £6 s6, the most expensive map or chart on the list, which was published in 1812... Arrowsmith is not identified as Hydrographer to the Prince of Wales, which title he obtained in 1810." OCLC/WorldCat lists one copy which corresponds closely to the present example, at the New York Historical Society, on a slightly larger sheet of paper, with date given as 1820. One other copy is described, at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, with variant title ("and" instead of "&", and no address listed), without a size given, dated 1800s.

References: Tooley, The Map Collector, No.9, illustrates three examples of Arrowsmith catalogues. One is a later example of mine, having more entries. The other two derive from the 1820's. NYPL has an example similar to mine, later, but earlier than that noted by Tooley. Baynton-Williams in an ad in Imago Mundi, vol 54, 2002, reproduces an Arrowsmith catalogue. It is dated 1815, with additions to 1818. It has two additional entries for maps beyond those in Tooley's first example.
From references above it would appear that Arrowsmith issued a catalogue fairly often. Their ephemeral nature meant that not many survived.
