[53] pp, i.e. Pp. [1]-6, [blank leaf], 1A-4A, 1B-20B, 5B-12B, 3C-4C, 1D-6B, 1E-7E. With folding color lithographed map; double-page lithographed plate. (8vo) 23.5x15 cm (9¼x6"), modern cloth, leather spine label.
Rare report for stockholders or prospective stock buyers of the mining company with property in in El Dorado County, California, on the Georgetown Divide. The map is "Map of Eldorado County, Cal. Showing the Georgetown Divide and Portions of the Placerville and Forest Hill Divide with the Ditches, Mines and other Properties of the California Water Co. Situated between the South Fork of Middle Fork and the South Fork of the American River 1880" (31.5x42 cm). There is descriptive text in the lower half. The double-page plate is "Hydraulic Mining on the Georgetown Divide El Dorado County California." This copy is missing pp 21B-28B, 1C-2C, however it is as complete, apparently, as any of the three copies listed in OCLC/WorldCat - the copy at the University of California Davis is noted as 53 pages in various pagings, like the present copy, and the copies at the University of California Berkeley and the Denver Public library are listed as 49 pages in various pagings. The latter two copies have a map, but no indication of the plate; the Davis copy has a map and illustration. Warren Heckrotte notes that "Bowman'report on 1874 on property of California Water Company is much more extensive and large map in that book has much more detail than this map. This book quotes a small part of Bowman's report."
Provenance: Heaston, 9/98
