The Reverend Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, LL.D., (1787-1851) was a renowned American pioneer in the education of the deaf, founder of the "Connecticut Asylum (at Hartford) for the Education and Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons." The present address was "Published at the request of several of the hearers, and the avails to be applied to the aid of the Sandwich mission." It reprints a speech made at the marriage of pioneer Hawaiian missionary Reverend Hiram Bingham to Sybil Moseley. The ceremony was conducted just before the departure of the couple for the Hawaiian islands, and refers to the condition of the natives and the mission in Hawaii. Shaw & Shoemaker 48061
