viii, 288 pp. Pictorial aerial maps on nearly every other page, drawn by the author; folding relief map of Southern California affixed to rear pastedown. (8vo) 22.2x12.5 cm (8¾x5"), original flexible morocco with small compass inset in front cover, as issued; spine rebacked with cloth tape lettered in white.
Uncommon and somewhat enchanting road atlas of Southern California. Warren Heckrotte comments "The author of the maps states that he recently 'recklessly enjoyed a ride in an aeroplane."'This gave him the idea for the road maps. They are aeroplane-eye views, showing the road from one town to another. The only city street maps are of downtown LA also done in the same style. In many of the maps an aircraft is shown in the sky. In spite of the title, at the end a series of maps show the road up to San Francisco. The preliminary text states that a companion volume on Northern California is in preparation."
