Lot closed - unsold
$300 - $500

Rapport sur le concours au prix annuel pour la découverte la plus importante en géographie, lu à l'assemblée générale de la Société de géographie le 25 Avril 1874 (wrapper title)

Malte-Brun, Victor-Adolphe

Imprimerie de E. Martinet

15 pp. With folding color lithographed map. (8vo) 22.7x14.2 cm (9x5½"), original printed wrappers.

The text details the basis for awarding Alphonse Pinart the Society's Gold Medal. Pinart spent a year, 1871-72, exploring the Aleutians. His travels are also described in Voyage de la Cote Nord-Ouest Amerique d'Ounalashka a Kadiak... 1874, which has a map that is the same as the one in the present publication. It is titled: "Itinéraire aux Iles Aléoutiennes (d'Ounalashka à Kadiak) par A. Pinart," With inset map of "Voyages à la Côte Nord-Ouest D'Amerique." The map measures 38.8x52 cm. OCLC/WorldCat lists only one copy of this 1874 issue, in a group of three other yearly issues of the medal awards; only a small number of other yearly issues are listed singly, so all are rare, but the present one particularly so.

Lot Amendments

Some wear and soiling to wrappers, a few small chips with top corner of front wrapper chipped off and following leaves dog-eared; short splits at fold intersections of map; overall very good.
