52 pp. Folding lithographed map loose in rear endpaper pocket. (8vo) 21.3x13.3 cm (8½x5¼"), modern buckram, spine lettered in gilt, original front wrapper bound in. First Edition.

The map is titled: "P. McD. Collins' Proposed Overland Telegraph via Behrings Strait and Asiatic Russia to Europe, under Russian & British Grants, Furnished by J.H. Colton..." measuring 42x64 cm. Warren Heckrotte notes that "The map derives from Colton's Map of the World as found in his atlas. Existing and proposed telegraph lines in the world are shown by a heavy line."
