Amphiorama, ou, La Vue du Monde: Phénomène inconnu pour la première fois observé et décrit

Trafford, François W. C.

Imprimerie Georges Bridel

78 pp. Folding lithographed map. (8vo) 22.2x14.5 cm (8¾x5¾"), removed from larger volume with remains of stitching on spine.

Scarce and curious work, described briefly by Warren Heckrotte: "The author claims that while standing on a peak in the Apennins he saw the whole world laid out before him. The book relates this view of the world. This includes unknown features that he expects exploration will prove to be accurate. The map illustrates some of these features, including a land plateau at the north pole. He states that he sent an earlier version of this text to a number of scientific societies but received no response." The map is titled "Le Pole Arctique par F.W.C. Trafford 1869," and is centered on the north pole. It measures 34.5x24 cm.
