A highly technical yet interesting report on the removal of a huge chunk of sandstone, which was located just five feet below the surface of the Bay between Alcatraz and Yerba Buena Islands and was a considerable peril to shipping. The plates are beautifully drawn and detailed. Among the are two maps: "Entrance to San Francisco Bay California showing the position of Blossom Rock from a Coast Survey Chart, 1859," which is folding, and "Map showing the Depth of Water on Blossom Rock as established by Survey of April 1871," which is colored. Cowan, p. 688. Rocq 12846.
