4 volumes. (8vo) original full sheep, red and black leather spine labels, raised bands on spine, marbled endpapers and edges. First Complete Edition.

Volume 1 & 2 were first published in 1885, Volumes 3 & 4 in 1897. "By a capable historian who used, for the Spanish period, documents since destroyed" - Howes. Cowan calls it "The best history of California within reasonable proportions. The accuracy of its author is well known, and the individual who inclines to history will find it readable...." Cowan p.285; Howes H544; Zamorano 80, 43.

Wear to boards, rubbing at extremities, areas of fraying, small areas where sheepskin has rubbed off, Vol 4 missing bottom portion of spine, rest of spine half-detached; one detached page at beginning of Vol. 1, some foxing; generally very good.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
