Significant atlas of Washington at mid-century, with two large folding maps, one of the capital city as it was just being built, the other in a more mature state fifty years later (the latter map with some repairs and a bit of loss, a red (wine) stain about 3" n diameter). There should be a third map, not present here. With ink ownership signature of William A. Birthe, Washington, July 17th, 1852, on front pastedown. There are a number of old pencil notes and notations within, often on the backs of the plates. A summary of the rebacking and restoration process, and the materials used, laid in.
