[70] pp. Illustrated throughout with collotypes from photographs, glassine interleaves; folding plan of Peking. (oblong folio) 23.8x33.6 cm (9¼x13"), cloth decorated with a dragon in color, with Chinese lettering.
Scarce photographic work on China during the Boxer Rebellion, when the western powers and Japan defended their colonial outposts in China against the violent anti-foreign and anti-Christian uprising which took place in China towards the end of the Qing dynasty between 1899 and 1901. The many pictures are captioned in German, but someone has written English translations beneath each in what looks like a period hand. OCLC/WorldCat lists thirteen copies in institutional libraries.
