Description:

Title-page + 6 maps printed in different color inks. Each map approx. 71x90 cm (28x35½"); folding to 22x13 cm (8½x5"), disbound.

Six maps, with the same general title, "Map of the City and County of San Francisco. Compiled from official surveys and engraved expressly for the San Francisco Health Department, Board of Health..." each showing aspects of a particular health problem. These are:

  • No. 1 Location of Deaths for the year ending June 30th, 1898.
  • No. 2 Showing location of fatal cases of Tuberculosis  (all varieties) during the year ending June 30th, 1898.
  • Map No. 3 Showing location of fatal cases of Acute Lung Diseases for the year ending June 30th, 1898.
  • No. 4 Showing location of fatal cases of Diphtheria; also number of cases thereof reported to the Health Department during the year ending June 30th, 1898.
  • No. 5 Showing location of fatal cases of Typhoid fever and Scarlet fever for the year ending June 30th, 1898.
  • No. 6 Showing location of fatal cases of Diarrheal Diseases for the year ending June 30th, 1898.

OCLC/WorldCat lists two examples of the set of maps, at the San Francisco Public Library and the University of California, Berkeley; also one copy of the Annual Report, unlocated, and with no mention of the maps. Withdrawn rubberstamp of the Medical and Chirurgical Library Faculty of Maryland to the title page.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
