The memoirs of one of the great American lawyers, and a leading member of the American Civil Liberties Union. George A. Schilling, to whom the book is inscribed, was a prominent union leader in Chicago, and like Darrow prescribed to the Georgist theory of community ownership of natural resources. Schilling's ownership signature, and address, are penciled on the front free endpaper.
