Rare. Charles Goodspeed, in Angling in America, describes this as the first American sporting book to deal with the angler's needs in a systematic way. He also quotes Schreiner on the therapeutic value of sport, "It is a well established fact that by a judicious indulgence in the favorite sciences of fishing and gunning, many important diseases may be removed; among which are cited indigestion, nervous derangement, nervous pains, and debility, rheumatism, and spinal affections, and even the indomitable, though very prevalent and alarming complaint of the lungs." The first part, pp.1-79, is devoted to angling and fish, with chapters on The Fish Hook; Snoods; The Artificial Fly; Swivels, Floats &c.; Worms, &c.; Lines; various kinds of fish, etc. Westwood & Satchell p.189.
