Rare map of San Francisco from Larkin Street east, with additional portions of the Mission and Western Addition. There are letter references to places on the map, 12 to buildings, and 11 to churches. The original coastline is shown, and the extent of San Francisco built on landfill is amazing. There was also lettersheet version, published a year after this one, with vignettes of eight buildings on the sides, OCLC/WorldCat lists only one copy of this 1853 issue, at the University of California, Berkeley, and none of the lettersheet version. There are old folds evident, since flattened when backed with tissue, and there are a few old ink notations on verso indicating this was used for legal purposes, with reference to Claim 235 (the notations are just visible on the recto of the map).
