Rare map of San Francisco from Larkin Street east, with additional portions of the Mission and Western Addition. This is the lettersheet version, published a year after the regular edition, with vignettes of eight buildings on the sides: New City Hall; Cor. of Montgomery & Washington Sts.; Grace Church & Seminary; Bella Union; Ritter's Building; Congregational Church; B. Davidson's Banking House; and Perrot's Building. There are letter references to places on the map, 12 to buildings, and 11 to churches. The original coastline is shown, and the extent of San Francisco built on landfill is amazing. OCLC/WorldCat lists only one copy of the 1853 issue, at the University of California, Berkeley, and none of the lettersheet version.
