Translation and commentary by Thomas Taylor on the fountainhead of Greek wisdom and philosophy - the extant hymns of Orpheus the legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion and myth, who was credited with an ability to charm all living things and even stones with his music. The Neoplatonist Thomas Taylor's treatment of the Orphic fragments was one of his earlier efforts in his quest to render into English all the untranslated writings of the ancient Greek philosophers.
