Engraved portrait on printed title-page. 5 (of 6) double-page engraved maps and 1 (of 2) double-page engraved battle plans. (Folio) 33x21 cm (13x8¼") later half calf and marbled boards, spine gilt. Third Edition.

First published in 1614, and again in 1621. Sir Walter Raleigh's renowned unfinished world history, beginning with the Creation ending at the time of Roman ascendancy, written while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. A work of enduring popularity throughout the 17th century.

Condition:
Binding a bit rubbed, bookplate, hinges starting; title page mounted, old marginal repairs to several leaves, one preliminary leaf (b1) with a long strip torn from outer margin; lacking one map and one battle plan, map at page 218 with a long closed tear, split at center crease, ink notes or markngs in an early hand on maps and several spots in text; some foxing and old staining; about very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
