Architecture Françoise ou Recueil des plans, élévations, coupes et profiles des églises, maisons royales, palais, hôtels et édifices les plus considérables de Paris...

Author:
Blondel, Jacques-Francois

Place:
Paris

Publisher:
Charles-Antoine Jombert

Date:
1752

Description:

Vol. 1(of 4). Folio (45.5 x 29.0cm). Contemporary quarter calf with marble boards; wear to ends of spine with loss; break near tail of front hinge; corners and edges rubbed with some loss of marble paper. Collation: ix, 298, [2] pp. + 152 engraved plates. This first volume in the series written by Blondel contains in two books an Introduction to architecture, brief history of the city of Paris and description of principle buildings in the Faubourge St. Germain, which are illustrated with the 152 copper engraved plates.

Blondel was a noted French architect who was a well-known teacher who professed a more open view to architecture even though he personally was quite conservative. He started his own school to which almost all students of architecture attended. The plates in this work illustrate the fine details of Bondel’s engravings. He served as engraver and architect to King Louis XV.

Donated by Antiquariat Botanicum, Lynden, WA.
