Description:

Eight printed leaves. The central text surrounded by gloss; rubricated. (folio) 35.5x25 cm (14x9¾").

Eight original printed leaves from the rare and significant Schoeffer printing of the Institutiones of Justinian I, Emperor of the eastern Roman empire in the 6th century A.D. This formed part of his Corpus Juris Civilis, a collection of fundamental works in jurisprudence, issued from 529 to 534. The 1468 edition was the first printing of the text, and the 1472 edition was a page for page reprint. We have been unable to determine which of the editions these leaves come from.

Lot Amendments

Condition:
The leaves trimmed close at one side, just affecting the text on a few; each with glue residue on one side; very good, worthy of cleaning.
