Lithographed map, hand-colored. 140x132 cm (55x52"), folding into original gilt-lettered cloth covers.

Scarce and detailed map of the large coal field in West Virginia, with text on the map stating in part "This map, covering about 4000 square miles, is made from authentic documents of record, showing the ancient surveys, now of valid title, as the boundaries have been determined and fixed by litigation, or otherwise. ---" Nine of surveyed parcels were granted to George Washington, Dec. 1773, "for his service in Braddock's war".

Wear to covers, front detached; a few tears and splits along folds the longest about 5 inches, paper browned where attached to folder; about very good, worthy of some restoration.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
