2 volumes. xx, 288; x, 263, [1] pp. 36 page publisher's catalog at the rear of Volume 2. Illustrated with 12 etched plates by George Cruikshank; plus copper-engraved frontispiece portrait (of Grimaldi) in first volume. (8vo) original floral patterned rose cloth, spines gilt. First Edition, First Issue.

Dickens edited the memoirs of the famous clown Grimaldi (1779-1837) with some reluctance, and ended up dictated the revisions to his father. First issue, with the last plate in the book ("The Last Song") having no border. Cohn 237; Eckel p140ff.

Well worn, some soiling and staining to cloth; several leaves chipped at fore edges, a few with old repairs; fair only but scarce in the original cloth.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
