The Exposition gave Indian Art, previously dismissed as oddities of cheap curios and souvenirs, “respectability” as a distinct traditional art form. The Grand Central Art Galleries where the exhibition was held had a reputation for promoting the avant garde in its adjoining Art School (see the five illustrated Catalogs, 1926-36, also offered in this sale).

Original pictorial wrappers. 8.5 x 11”. 55pp.+3pp. Extensively illustrated, including 8 tipped-in color plates.
• Herbert J. Spinden, Mary Austin et al.  Introduction to American Indian Art, Part II (Sections on Fine Art and the First Americans; Indian Symbolism; Indian Poetry; Modern Indian Painting; Sand-Painting of the Navaho Indians; Indian Pottery; Indian Sculpture and Carving; Indian Masks; Indian Basketry; Indian Weaving; Indian Porcupine-Quill and Beadwork; Books on Indian Arts North of Mexico) 7.5 x 10”. 12 separate sections individually paginated, approx. 157 pp. total. We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
