Letters and Papers

Weil, Oscar

San Francisco

The Book Club of California

Frontispiece photograph by Dorothea Lange from a painting of Oscar Weil. Printed in red and black. (4to) 29x19.5 cm (11½x7½"), black and tan cloth, paper labels lettered in gilt; with custom 2 part red morocco and cloth solander slipcase with gilt lettering to spine. One of 400 copies printed by the Grabhorn Press.

While no limited issues are listed in the bibliography, this copy possesses a few seemingly unique attributes, including a circular watermark on front and back boards, of what appears to be a crouching puma or similar animal, as well as rust colored labels, as opposed to the usual brighter red. With the decorative bookplate of William Deans. The volume is housed in a handsome solander case. Letters, speeches, and reminiscences of the San Francisco musicologist.

Lot Amendments

Some rubbing to morocco on slipcase and board edges; silvering to frontispiece as is common; very good or better.
