Introduction by Oscar Lewis. Illustrated with a hand-colored title page map, decorative initials, head and tail pieces adapted by Valenti Angelo from contemporary sources. (4to), 32x22.5 cm (12½x9"), tan cloth-backed brown boards, in a folding cloth chemise with marbled interior, housed in a matching cloth slipcase. Out of series proof copy,  numbered "E.G". From an edition of 250.

This is a unique proof copy of BCC's 26th publication. "Proof copy: do not sell" appears in pencil in Edwin Grabhorn's hand on two blank pages at front, and on the leaf preceding the title page is written in pen: "Experimental binding - E. Grabhorn, June 1926." At the colophon, the copy is numbered "E.G. [Edwin Grabhorn]" in Grabhorn's hand. "This proof copy is somewhat larger than the regular edition of the work. Mr. Grabhorn found, after printing a few sheets this size, that he could not get enough paper of this quality to to print the entire edition, and so was forced to change the size. The binding was also a trail binding; subsequently discarded in favor of full limp vellum." - From a laid in card from Newbegin's Rare Books of San Francisco. A one of a kind volume from the Book Club of California.  Prospectus laid in.
