Inscribed to Alfred Sutro by Oscar Lewis on the front free endpaper: "For Alfred Sutro, who, as President of the Book Club, could - and probably should - have prevented the publication of this book. His failure to exercise his veto power has elevated him still higher in the esteem of - Oscar Lewis." The volume is inscribed to Alfred Sutro by Edwin Grabhorn at the colophon, and Oscar Lewis' signature appears beneath Grabhorn's. Sutro's bookplate is laid in at the front, having come loose from the front pastedown. The unique first copy of this desirable title.
