Description:

Pale green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge stained black, pictorial dust jacket and endpapers by Mahlon Blaine. First Edition, First Issue.

First issue, with Robert O. Ballou imprint on jacket, spine and title page. Steinbeck's scarce third book, one of 598 bound and sold as the first issue (of 1,498 copies printed). The remaining sheets were sold to Covici, Friede, and issued under their imprint in 1935. Printed jacket price ($2.00) listed towards the bottom of the front flap. Toning and wear to jacket, with some small chips and closed tears to edges, some foxing to rear panel, cloth with sunning to edges and spine, rubbing to spine gilt, light spotting to text block edges, volume leaning; about very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
