Little can be found about this talented English caricaturist though he seems to have been primarily employed as a clerk in the Twopenny Post and at some point president of the London District Office. The Letters of Charles Dickens cites a letter from Dickens to Sculthorpe in 1859. The scenes humorously depict various aspects of English life and society in the latter half of the 19th century though, according to a note by the artist, some are redrawings of earlier works dating as early as the 1830s. The five illustrations now lacking were sold in a 1998 auction at Christie's and are perhaps still somewhere in the trade. A wonderful collection.
