Description:

Five autograph letters, one Christmas card with long note, and a photograph of Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, and Byron Nelson.

Warm correspondence from Career Grand Slam golfing legend Gene Sarazen to Wilson Sporting Goods golf club designer Bob Mendralla. with much praise for Mendralla's designs ("best looking one you ever made, I'm using it with much success, the flange is just perfect...) and requests for customizations (I would like reminder grips..."), as well as recounting some play ("Augusta was just beautiful this year but we were all fortunate to have left in time, I played with Hard Hardin yesterday and he said it was terrible for the players..."), and much pleasant conversation between the two gentlemen. Robert Mendralla was a nationally known golf club designer for Chicago-based Wilson Sporting Goods, fashioning clubs for many notable golfers and celebrities. Mendralla worked at Wilson for 57 years, rising from a job performing miscellaneous tasks such as sweeping Wilson's factory to become one of the nation's few designers of forged golf clubs in an industry now dominated by cast, or molded, clubs. The included 8x10" color photograph show Sarazen with Sam Snead and Byron Nelson, each standing behind their custom Wilson clubs, undoubtedly of Mandrella's design.
