This is one of the outstanding American golf books, a comprehensive look back over the years which contains many wonderful pictures, including reproductions of the very early golf references in the American press. Mr. Martin was an outstanding golf writer and contributed many books to the library of golf. Typically seen only signed, this copy has been warmly inscribed by Martin on the limitation page: "To my good friend J.H. Wall who has always shown a keen enthusiasm for the game and who has done much toward its development in this country. With best wishes from the author, H.B. Martin. Oct. '36." Wall was co-owner of the Wall-Spalding Lumber Company in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, president of the Oshkosh Country Club in 1922 and winner of the club's Hollister Medal in 1918.
