Description:

124 typed leaves, on recto sides only. 13x8, bound in Clapcott’s original dark bluish-gray cloth, typed paper cover label. Unpublished typescript.

One of only perhaps three or four copies prepared, unpublished and contains extensively researched information on the history of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Leith, Scotland, including member names, charts of various types of statistics (mostly attendance and financial records), etc. Completely hand-typed and hand-bound in cloth, with a hand typed paper label providing title and date information, by C.B. Clapcott. Mr. Clapcott is best known for his golf library, of which several references have been written, including, C.B. Clapcott and his Golf Library by Alastair Johnson and Joseph Murdoch. Clapcott is also known for discovering, what once was thought to be lost, the first known Rules of Golf which drawn up in 1744 in Edinburgh for the world's first open golf competition at Leith by the Gentlemen Golfers of Edinburgh, who would go on to become The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. He found them in 1937 on the last two pages of the Honourable Company's Minute Book. The rules, of course, are listed within this extremely rare 1939 work. A highly important historic study on the famous Scottish golf club; here now being offered as a unique opportunity to obtain a most valuable and much sought after unpublished work, both for Clapcott enthusiasts and for preservationists of golf history.
